KNOB OVAL SEAL. Height:2.6cm (1.02in) , Width:4.5cm (1.77in) , Weight:40g (0.088lb) An oval scholar?studio seal of Late?Qing period, carved from fine Shoushan Tianhuang stone with fatty dense texture and rich orange?yellow hue, covered with mellow antique patina. The knob is high?relief carved with two cuddling chilong beasts, rendered with full?bodied forms, detailed claws and manes in sophisticated rounded carving. The side bears incised inscription ??Wen Ruo, seventh month of Xin?chou year??. The oval seal face is a vermilion leisure seal, with fluent seal?script strokes well?adapted to oval composition, deep clean grooves. Aged cinnabar seal?paste remains on surface. Combining premium stone, fine carving, dated inscription and accomplished seal cutting, it is a fine Late?Qing literati studio object.
