OFFICIAL ON HORSEBACK WITH A GREEN BACK AND YELLOW GLAZE. L:25.5cm H:34cm This low-temperature lead-glazed tri-color equestrian official figurine of Ming Dynasty is made of white clay, integrated with horse and rectangular base in one firing, covered with yellow and green glazes. The figure wears a small black-glazed official hat, with plain unglazed calm facial features. He wears ochre inner robe and a turquoise long waistcoat over it, one hand lifted as if conversing, the other holding reins gently while seated on the saddle. The whole horse is coated with glossy yellow-brown glaze, its mane, bridle and saddle decorated with green glaze, with fringed green saddle skirt hanging below, and black glaze on hoof tips. The sculpture is plump and realistic. This figurine is a funeral retinue burial ware for Ming tombs, representing the deceased??s attending clerks, embodying the wish for smooth official career and lifelong attendants.
