This is the working recipe file out of the estate kitchen, and it is a big one. A stack of tabbed manila file folders, hand-lettered in ink at the tabs with categories including Candy, Beverages (Punch, Tea), Snacks Dips Misc., Casseroles, Pie, Bread, Salads, Cookies, and Christmas, each one stuffed with loose recipes on every kind of paper a cook ever reached for: handwritten sheets on lined notebook paper, legal pad pages, memo pads, and index cards, carbon-copy and mimeographed typed pages from clubs and extension groups, newspaper and magazine clippings, product package panels, and promotional recipe leaflets. Several pieces carry local names and local business printing, which is where the interest is for area bidders. There are First State Bank "Teller Recipe" cards for Millionaire Pie, Peanut Butter Cake, and Malabar Dream Pie, an Office Memorandum sheet from The Federal Land Bank of Wichita used as scratch paper for a spiced tea recipe, a folder with a Sid's Oilfield Const. Co., Hinton, Oklahoma, 405-542-8180 sticker on it, a nut bread page marked Compliments of Jackie Deason, Caddo County 4-H, a newspaper clipping headed "Aunt Bill's Brown Candy" under a wedding announcement for Julia Ann Jones To Become Bride, a typed Chinese Baked Beans page signed Jo Ann Hancock, a cookie brittle recipe signed Nell Springer, and recipes credited by name to Helen Moore, Cindy Young, Theresa Moser, Janice Barnett, and Nancy Clark. There is also a Furr's Cafeteria promotional sheet giving out their Pineapple Millionaire Pie recipe and a color Braum's Recipes for the Holidays brochure. Bidders should note this is loose used paper ephemera, heavily toned, stained, folded, and creased throughout, sold as one group and not counted or itemized piece by piece. Sold as the lot pictured.
Description
Format - a stack of standard letter-size manila file folders, third-cut tabs, hand-lettered in black ink at the tab. Tabs legible in the photographs read Candy, Beverages (Punch, Tea), Snacks, Dips, Misc., Casseroles, Pie, Bread, Salads, Cookies, and Christmas. Folders are filled with loose contents, some in clear plastic sheet protectors and some loose, and the whole file is photographed both stacked and opened folder by folder.
Handwritten material - numerous recipes in several different hands in blue and black ink and pencil, on ruled notebook paper, yellow and white legal pad sheets, gridded paper, memo pads, and index cards. Handwritten titles readable in the photographs include Punch (marked 3 gallons), Hot Spiced Punch, Orange Banana, Orange Sherbet Jello Salad, Ewi Angels Salad, Zucchini Bread, Mexican Corn Bread, Broccoli Casserole, Brunch Casserole, a buttered pecan mixture baked in a jelly roll pan, a pickled okra recipe, and a bread-in-a-jug fermented recipe reading stretch lid, balloon over top of jug, set 21 days.
