LLADR MATTE BISQUE PORCELAIN BELL - "SUMMER", No. 17615, SEASONAL BELL SERIES, WITH ORIGINAL VALENCIA BOX
The eleventh Lladr piece from this estate and the companion to the Winter bell offered in the preceding lot. A small dome-form hanging bell in white matte bisque porcelain, modeled in low relief with a summer seaside scene: a young angler seated on the rocks in a wide brimmed hat with a fishing pole, sailboats on the water, gulls in flight, and on the opposite face a large blazing sun with radiating rays over rocks and foliage. The lower body carries a soft pale aqua-gray band just above the flared rim, the only color on the piece, and there is a pierced loop at the crown for hanging. Inside is a white porcelain clapper suspended on a gilt wire. The interior carries a blue printed Lladr backstamp and two small paper factory dots. Model 17615, from the same Lladr seasonal bell group as the 17616 Winter bell in this sale. It comes with its original gray Lladr carton printed with the bell-flower logo, LLADR, and VALENCIA - ESPAA, with the printed end label reading 17615, size code M, and barcode 7 37859 17615 9, and with the original white foam-lined insert and the packing card printed EMBALADOR / P.M.T. Approximately 3 inches tall. Sold as one bell with its original box.
Description
Lladr white matte bisque porcelain bell, dome or bell-tent form with a plain flared rim and a small pierced knob loop at the top for a ribbon or ornament hook.
Low-relief summer seaside scene running around the body: a seated figure in a broad hat fishing from the rocks with a long pole, two sailboats with raised sails on the water behind, a flight of gulls above the waves, rocks and foliage along the shoreline, and on the reverse a large stylized sun with long radiating rays over the same shoreline; the relief is soft and shallow, the way Lladr worked these seasonal bells.
A soft pale aqua-gray band around the lower body just above the rim, the single element of color on an otherwise all-white piece.
Interior fitted with a white porcelain teardrop clapper hung on a gilt metal wire from a coiled loop at the crown; the clapper is present and attached.
The interior wall is marked with a blue printed Lladr backstamp that is photographed at an angle and is not fully legible, along with a small round teal paper factory dot and a second round paper dot. Because the mark cannot be read in the photograph, no wording, year, or DAISA line from that mark is quoted here.
Original box included, a gray Lladr carton printed with the bell-flower logo, LLADR, and VALENCIA - ESPAA, with a printed end label showing a photograph of the bell, the Lladr logo, the number 17615, a size code M, and barcode 7 37859 17615 9; the interior retains its white foam-lined insert with the bell seated in the cavity and a packing card printed EMBALADOR / P.M.T. on the lid flap.
Approximately 3 inches tall per the tape-measure photograph, in which the tape is stood on the carpet beside the bell rather than fixed to it, so the height is a close estimate. No overhead measured photograph of the rim was taken, so no rim diameter is claimed, though the form matches the Winter bell in the preceding lot at roughly 2.7 to 3 inches across. Bidders should verify all dimensions from the photographs.
Attribution note
Lladr is the Spanish porcelain house founded by the brothers Juan, Jos, and Vicente Lladr near Valencia in the 1950s, and this bell's carton is printed VALENCIA - ESPAA. DAISA is the group entity holding the design copyrights, so a DAISA date in a Lladr mark is a design copyright date rather than necessarily the year the piece was made. Numbers in the 17000 range were used by Lladr for smaller giftware and accessory forms such as bells, votive holders, and plaques rather than for the figurine line, the same numbering family as the 17658 Dolphins at Play votive elsewhere in this sale. Lladr issued these matte bisque bells as a four seasons group with consecutive model numbers, each with a relief scene and a single tinted band at the rim, and this piece is 17615, the Summer subject, sitting immediately beside 17616 Winter which is offered in the preceding lot of this sale. The fishing figure, sailboats, gulls, and radiant sun are the summer imagery for that group. The number 17615 is read directly from the printed box label and barcode. Because the interior backstamp is not legible in these photographs, no issue year or retirement year is claimed for this bell, and bidders who need that confirmed should ask before bidding. No representation is made as to secondary-market value or edition size, and only the single Summer bell pictured is offered here. All identification here is read from the packaging and the piece as visible in these photographs and is offered as the consignor's photo-based opinion and is not guaranteed. Bid on the item as pictured.
