FEMALE ATTENDANTS. L:11cm H:29cm / L:8.5cm H:29cm / L:8.8cm H:27cm / L:8.6cm H:27.5cm This complete set of four painted pottery attendants of Tang Dynasty is molded from white clay, decorated with cinnabar, ink and white mineral pigments, consisting of maid, male servant and civil officials. Fan-holding maid (far left): Wears classic Tang double ring short hairstyle with red flower ornament on forehead, white slip priming the face. She is dressed in full vermilion cross-collar long skirt carved with vertical folds, one hand raised while the other holds a round fan, presenting plump gentle bearing typical of prosperous Tang ladies. Male servant (second left): Hair tied up with bare forehead, plain facial features, short cross-collar tunic outlined in red, hands folded over abdomen as a domestic servant. Two civil officials (right two): Wear flat small official hats, plain clay robes with faint residual pigments, hands cupped respectfully at chest in neat posture, representing the deceased??s clerks. This full set belongs to tomb retinue burial wares of Tang, recreating the daily servants serving the deceased, reflecting lavish burial customs and secular life of the era. Though partially weathered, intact hairstyle, makeup and costume retain authentic Tang features, forming a precious complete artifact for researching Tang women??s makeup, dress and pottery sculpture craft.
