Description from HiBid
IN GILDED COPPER FROM THE MING DYNASTY. Weight:2600g (5.732lb) , Height:25cm (9.84in) , Width:12.5cm (4.92in) , Thick:12.5cm (4.92in) This gilt and polychromed bronze seated statue of Guanyin Bodhisattva dates to the Ming Dynasty. Crafted in gilt bronze with mineral pigment accents, its gilded surface is mottled and worn, interspersed with traces of ancient mineral green and vermilion pigments, bearing a rich, elegant aged patina with a profound sense of time. Guanyin wears an elaborate multi-layered crown carved with intricate scrollwork and small Buddha figures in exquisite detail, with traces of azurite pigment remaining along the hairline. She has a dignified, plump face with downcast, compassionate eyes and soft, gentle brows, presenting a serene and tranquil demeanor with a solemn, sacred presence. Seated in lotus position atop the lotus throne, she forms the anjali mudra (palms joined) at her chest with an upright, poised posture. Draped in celestial robes and flowing scarves with layered, graceful folds, she is adorned with a jeweled necklace on the chest and flowing sashes falling from her shoulders, with exquisitely carved lines that fully embody the elegant, dignified style of Ming Dynasty sculpture. She rests on an upturned lotus throne with full, neatly arranged petals, supported by a multi-tiered waisted base of solid, steady form that complements the statue perfectly. A classic form of Ming Dynasty Han Chinese Buddhist sculpture, it symbolizes merciful protection, peaceful well-being, combined blessings and wisdom, and auspicious health and fortune. ALL PROPERTY IS SOLD AS IS, WHERE IS, WITH NO RETURNS OR CANCELLATIONS.
