GUANYIN FROM THE MING DYNASTY. Height:82cm (32.28in) , Width:65cm (25.59in) , Thick:41cm (16.14in) This polychrome wood seated statue of Guanyin in Royal Ease Pose dates to the Ming Dynasty. Made of wood with painted pigments, its colored lacquer has faded and mottled over time, with a warm, natural wood texture and a rich, elegant aged patina that exudes quiet depth and dynamism. Guanyin assumes the relaxed lalitasana (royal ease) posture: one leg is folded in seated position while the other bends upward, her left hand rests gently on the raised knee, and her right arm supports her by the side. The posture is casual, open and unconstrained, moving beyond the strict solemnity of meditative statues to fully embody the Bodhisattva's spirit of according with conditions and abiding in effortless ease. She wears an elaborate multi-layered crown topped with a small Buddha figure, with a white urna mark on her forehead. Her face is plump and gentle, with half-closed downcast eyes and a subtle smile, presenting a serene and compassionate demeanor that blends dignity with warm approachability. Celestial robes and sashes drape around her body with flowing, swirling folds that appear to float naturally.
