LOT OF FOUR PAIRS VINTAGE LADIES IVORY AND OFF-WHITE DRESS GLOVES INCLUDING LONG OPERA LENGTH Group of four pairs of vintage ladies' dress gloves, eight gloves total, all in the ivory to off-white to pale butter range and all appearing to be a fine knit or woven synthetic such as nylon rather than leather. The group photograph shows: one long opera or above-elbow pair in a sheer lightweight ivory with plain hemmed cuffs and three-line stitched backs; one bracelet-length pair with a tucked, tiered cuff trimmed with two small self-covered buttons in pale butter cream; one plain wrist-length pair with a simple stitched hem; and one softer pair finished with gathered ruching up the wrist. All are unlined, side-seamed with a set-in thumb, and cut in the classic mid-century day and evening glove pattern. Condition is used with age throughout: overall ivory-to-yellow toning, light soiling and scattered faint spots, a few pinpoint dark specks, lint and carpet fibers clinging to the surface, storage wrinkling and creasing, faint pencil-like marking near one cuff, and slight edge yellowing at the hems. NO maker label, NO size mark and NO fiber-content tag was photographed, none were found in these frames, the gloves were NOT tried on, NOT laundered and NOT measured with a tape. Attribution note Fabric dress gloves in this ivory and off-white range, cut unlined with three-line stitched backs and finished with tucked cuffs, self-covered buttons or wrist ruching, are the standard American day-and-evening glove of roughly the 1950s through the 1960s, and dealer listings for that period routinely describe identical unlabeled nylon and rayon examples with no interior marking at all, as seen in the vintage glove inventories kept by Amber's Attic, Dandelion Vintage and Viva Vintage Clothing. Long above-elbow pairs of this type were sold for weddings, proms and formal evening wear, while the wrist and bracelet lengths were everyday church, luncheon and travel gloves. Period sizing was marked in numbers such as 6, 6, 7 and 7 rather than small or medium, which is one reason unmarked pairs are usually sold by measurement. Notes for bidders Fine fabric gloves store best flat and unfolded in acid-free tissue, away from light, heat and damp, since hard creasing sets permanently in aged synthetics. Handle by the cuff rather than pulling on fingertips, which is where the seams give first. Do not machine wash or bleach: if cleaning is attempted at all, hand wash one glove gently in cool water with a mild soap, lay flat to dry, and expect that age toning may not lift. Do not iron directly; steam lightly from a distance if needed. For display, soft glove forms or rolled tissue inside the hand keep the shape without stressing the seams.
