TWO PAIRS VINTAGE LADIES GLOVES - BURNT ORANGE LONG BELOW-ELBOW AND TAN BUTTON-CUFF WRIST LENGTH Two pairs of vintage ladies' fabric dress gloves. The first pair is a long below-elbow style in strong burnt orange, a fine knit or woven synthetic with a matte surface, unlined, set-in thumb with a shaped gusset, three-line stitched backs, plain hemmed opening, and a straight unflared arm. The second pair is wrist length in pale tan to beige, same general fine-knit construction, unlined, with three-line stitched backs and a slit cuff placket trimmed with six small white pearl-look two-hole buttons on each glove. Both pairs follow the standard mid-century American dress glove pattern. Condition is used: the orange pair shows overall wrinkling and storage creasing with scattered lint and light surface fuzzing, a small darker spot near one cuff hem, and slight sheen variation from wear; the tan pair shows light overall soiling and toning with clinging lint and carpet fiber, faint shadow marks on the backs, and cuff hems slightly darkened from handling. Neither pair was tried on, turned inside out, laundered, pressed or measured with a tape. Sold as a lot of two pairs, four gloves total, exactly as pictured. Strong saturated colors such as this burnt orange are more typical of the later end of that span, when gloves were bought to match a specific dress or coat rather than as plain neutral daywear. Period sizing was marked numerically, 6, 6, 7, 7 and so on, rather than by small or medium, which is why unmarked pairs like these are normally sold on measurement. Notes for bidders Fine fabric gloves store best laid flat and unfolded in acid-free tissue, out of light, heat and damp, since hard creases set permanently in aged synthetics and the long arms are where the worst creasing happens. Handle by the cuff rather than pulling on fingertips, which is where seams give first. Do not machine wash or bleach: if cleaning is attempted, hand wash one glove gently in cool water with mild soap, lay flat to dry, and expect that toning may not lift and that a strong dye like this orange can bleed. Do not iron directly; steam lightly from a distance. Soft glove forms or rolled tissue inside the hand hold the shape for display without stressing the seams.
