The sales are real and set by state law. The catch is what you buy: a tax sale certificate, not the house. The owner can still redeem, and a deed takes a court petition later.
What do you actually get at an Indiana tax sale?
A tax sale certificate. The winning bid pays the delinquent taxes and costs, and the owner then has a redemption period to pay them back: one year after a county tax sale, 120 days after a commissioners' certificate sale. If the owner redeems, the buyer is repaid. Only if they do not can the buyer petition the court for a tax deed.
