Description from HiBid
WWII Nazi German Ordnance lot to include 1) WWII NAZI GERMAN ANTI TANK RIFLE GRENADE WW2. WWII Nazi German 98K Anti Tank Rifle Grenade measuring 7 1/4 inches tall and still retains most of the original finish. Excellent. The Schiessbecher (German spelling: Schießbecher - literally "shooting cup") grenade launcher or Gewehrgranatgerät (literally "rifle grenade device") was used by German forces in World War II. It was introduced as of 1942 and based on rifle grenade launcher models designed during World War I. The Schiessbecher was intended to replace all previous rifle grenade launcher models. The Schiessbecher rifle grenade launcher could be used against infantry, fortifications and light armored vehicles up to a range of 280 m (310 yd). For these differing tasks several specialized grenades with accompanying special propelling cartridges were developed for the Schiessbecher rifle grenade launchers. The rifle grenade propelling cartridges fired a wooden projectile through the barrel to the rifle grenade that upon impact automatically primed the rifle grenade. The Schiessbecher had a short rifled barrel with a caliber of 30 mm (1.2 in) and a length of 250 mm (9.8 in). It weighed 750 g (26 oz) and could be attached to weapons chambered for 7.92×57mm or 7.92×33mm Kurz ammunition like the Karabiner 98k, Karabiner 98a, G98/40, StG 44 and FG 42. A rather complicated aiming device was mounted to the left of the original sights and allowed for aiming ranges from 0 of up to 250 m (270 yd) in 25 m (27 yd) increments. The Schiessbecher was produced until May 1944. The total production was 1,450,114. A Schiessbecher was used in an attempt to kill 2nd Lt. Daniel Inouye in Liguria at the end of April 1945. However, the grenade was a dud, but at the cost of severing Inouye's right arm. 2) WWII NAZI GERMAN M39 EGG GRENADE BY ODQ 43 WW2. Later pattern, (Circa 1942-1945) two piece, vertically oval, tooled and stamped, magnetic sheet metal construction, high explosive concussion, egg grenade with a raised, central, brazed, horizontal rim securing the top and bottom halves together. Retains a good portion of its original finish. Maker marked "odq 43". Fuse is marked fxl and dated for 1943.The development and production of German army ordnance was under the supervision of the HwaA, Heereswaffenamt, (Army Ordnance Office), which was a subsection of the OKH, Oberkommando des Heeres, (High Command of the Army), and was responsible for testing, evaluation and eventual issue of all ordnance. The HwaA would issue all ordnance to a units Quartiermeister, (Supply HQ unit/Quartermaster), which contained the units Administration, Medical, Veterinarian, and Transport officer’s and its main responsibility was the control of all supplies to the forward troops including all vehicle fuel, and lubricant requirements as well as animal feed and rations and ammunition and accessories. Introduced in 1939, the M39 high explosive, offensive, concussion, egg hand grenade was a slightly larger version of the WWI egg grenade which had originally been introduced in 1916. The advantage of the M39 egg grenade was that its smaller size made it easier to carry in larger quantities and due to its shape most personnel could throw it further then the M24/M39 stick grenades. The thin sheet metal construction egg grenades were armed with roughly 112 grams, (4 ounces) of TNT giving it an effective explosive radius of roughly twelve to fourteen yards. The grenade was activated by a screw threaded ignition fuse that was inserted into a receiving port on the top edge of the grenade and provided a four to five second explosion delay. Regulations of May 23RD 1942 introduced a second pattern egg grenade which was identical to the first pattern with the addition of a metal ring secured to the bottom which was designed for attaching the grenade to the target or joining a group of grenades together although it was more commonly utilized to attach the grenades to the uniform or equipment. Additional regulations of September 19TH 1944 introduced a separate fragmentation sleeve for the egg grenades altering it from a purely concussion weapon to a more damaging fragmentation weapon. 3) WWII NAZI GERMAN M44 EGG GRENADE WITH FUZE INERT.Later pattern, (Circa 1944-1945) two piece, vertically round, tooled metal construction, high explosive concussion, egg grenade.
