The obverse features a profile portrait of King Ludwig III encircled by "LUDWIG III KOENIG VON BAYERN," while the reverse displays the crowned Bavarian coat of arms flanked by lions, reading "IN TREUE FEST" above and "BAYERN THALER / 1914/16" below. The two coin halves pull apart to reveal a fold-out accordion paper insert featuring color-printed illustrations depicting military subjects, including naval hero Otto von Weddigen and coastal artillery ("Strandbatterie"), paired with Bavarian lozenge pattern paper linings and an outer cover reading "Unseren tapferen BAYERN in Treue und Dankbarkeit gewidmet."
