Jasper Jackson and Family at Gettysburg. This late 19th-century albumen print is mounted on a tan cardstock and depicts a group portrait of individuals seated on a simple wooden bench. The subjects are positioned against a massive rock face on the Gettysburg battlefield. The group includes an older man wearing several military medals and ribbons on his jacket, a younger man, a woman, and a young girl. The lower margin of the mount is printed with the text TIPTON'S GETTYSBURG PHOTOGRAPHS and GETTYSBURG, PA. The reverse of the mount features an elaborate printed trade label for W. H. TIPTON, The Battlefield Photographer, which includes information on ordering duplicate copies and mentions the photographers collection of plates of the battlefield. Above the printed label, a handwritten ink inscription identifies the subjects: Andrew Jasper Jackson, Granddaughter, Margaret Border Jackson and Grandson of Andrew and Margaret Jackson. The word Baby is written above the name Margaret. The photograph is a vintage sepia-toned print characteristic of the albumen process used in the late 1800s. Mount width: approximately 11.25 inches.
