This Waffenfabrik Mauser manufactured C96 Military “Red 9” was a WWI Imperial German Army Contract pistol, was produced somewhere within its contract dates between 1916-1918 in Caliber 9mm Luger (Reason for the “Red 9” carved and painted in the grips, so as nobody accidentally tried to load the “usual” .30 Mauser (7.63mm). It is loaded via stripper clip into its fixed internal 10rnd magazine. There were 150,000 were ordered but only 137,000-140,000 units total were produced. It features a slotted and lugged backstrap for its wooden holster/shoulder stock and a lanyard ring at the butt, consistent with its military-issue configuration. The markings are strong with the Imperial Crowns over letter “U” acceptance stamps present below the serial number on the left side by the chamber. Manufacturer address markings are present. Matching serial numbers on all parts. It uses a short recoil locked breech system with a single action trigger and has the improved “Neue Sicherung” (NS) safety. The hammer has the “NS” stamp on its spine. It is equipped with a dovetailed front blade and a tangent rear sight graduated 50–500 meters, with the scale specific to the 9mm caliber. The 5.5” barrel and full-size steel construction maintain the classic handling associated with the "Broomhandle" profile. Includes an Original (not a reproduction) wood shoulder stock/ holster stamped 219 and an Original Deutsche Werke AG München 1916 C96 shoulder stock leather scabbard (or leather harness) a highly collectible accessory for the Mauser C96 "Broomhandle" pistol, representing early WWI production with cleaning rod and 1 stripper clip. Carved in the stock are the initials E.W.B and written on the leather scabbard is Bierylo. There is a photo copy of the original owner showing his discharge from the German Army dated Jan 2 1921.
