Unique selection of a commemorative plaque and mug set celebrating the iconic USS Nimitz. The USS Nimitz (CVAN 68) is currently the oldest active aircraft carrier in the world although it is set to be decommissioned and go through inactivation at the beginning of 2027. As it was commissioned on May 3rd, 1975, the vessel would hold a historic career spanning 50 years.
The Nimitz is a Nuclear-powered multi-mission vessel with 2x Westinghouse A4W Nuclear Reactors. It measures 1,092 feet in length and holds the capacity of approximately 90 aircraft and 5,000 + personnel. The carrier is named after Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz, the strategist who led the U.S. Pacific Fleet during World War II.
What is directly within the set is a wooden plaque showcasing the USS Nimitz insignia along with the writing “Plant No. 1 – August 20, 1974” and “Plant No. 2 – June 11, 1974”. Plaque measures approx. 11” H x 12” W. Also included is a decorative ceramic mug also displaying the Nimitz insignia.
