U.S. Springfield Model 1873 Trapdoor Cadet Rifle

Serial # NSN. .45-70 Govt. caliber single shot rifle with a 29½” barrel. The bore is near excellent, clean and shiny with strong rifling. The beech block is marked “Model 1873 US”. Lock marked “U.S. Springfield”. The blue metal finish on the barrel is in good condition showing muzzle wear with thinning, scratches and scattered light surface rust. VP proofs on the barrel. 1879 style rear sight. The breech block shows traces of case color. The lock plate has been blued and shows thinning with a haze of fine rust. The hammer is mostly a brownish gray patina. The plain walnut stock is in good condition showing scattered dings and scratches with finish wear. There is a faint illegible cartouche on the left side with a script “P” on the underside of the wrist and a “53” stamped forward of the trigger guard. The trigger guard and butt plate have been blued years ago and are taking on a brown patina. The action works fine. Includes a steel ramrod and a socket bayonet with scabbard.
