U.S. Springfield Model 1861 Bridesburg Percussion

Serial # NSN. .58 caliber black powder percussion rifle with a 40” barrel. The bore is very good, mostly clean with visible rifling. The lock is marked “US Bridesburg” and is dated 1862. Made by Alfred Jenks & Son in Bridesburg, PA during 1861-1865. The metal finish on the barrel and barrel bands is a brown patina with darker patches of older cleaned surface rust. The barrel has the V&P proofs with an eagle’s head. The date appears to be 1862, but is partially illegible. The lock plate is a cleaned gray patina with brown around the edges. The hammer and trigger guard and butt plate are a brown patina. Blade front sight with a folding leaf rear sight added. The plain walnut stock is in very good condition showing scattered light dings and scratches with finish wear. There is a faint illegible cartouche on the left side. The butt plate is a brown patina. The steel ramrod is a rusty and pitted brown patina. The action works fine; the lock holds on half and full cock. Includes a historic article.
