This St. Etienne MLE 1866 Chassepot rifle is a remarkable piece of French military history dating to the black powder era. Chambered in 11mm and manufactured in 1872, this bolt-action rifle features a 31-inch barrel with a shiny bore and remains in good overall condition. The rifle retains its original wooden furniture showing honest age and service character, while the military ladder sight and included bayonet significantly enhance its collector appeal. Although the serial numbers are unmatched, the rifle remains an impressive representative of the famous Chassepot system, which was considered one of the most advanced military rifles of its day. The Chassepot played a major role during the Franco-Prussian War and helped shape the future of military rifle development. Antique military rifles from this period continue to become increasingly difficult to locate, making this an excellent opportunity to acquire a significant piece of European firearms history.
