Top-Break Revolver .38 S&W with 6 Inch Barrel. This lot features a Smith & Wesson .38 Double Action Fourth Model top-break revolver chambered in .38 S&W. This example is configured with a 6-inch barrel and is fitted with checkered black hard rubber grip panels that display the Smith & Wesson monogram. The revolver retains a blued finish that has thinned significantly, presenting a transitioning brown patina with areas of light surface oxidation and visible holster wear. Prominent markings include the caliber designation 38 S.&W. CTG on the left side of the barrel and the Smith & Wesson logo on the right side of the frame. The serial number 383517 is clearly stamped on the butt of the grip frame, while an accompanying consignor tag lists the number 414338. Included with the firearm is a period-appropriate brown leather holster featuring decorative basketweave stamping and a retention strap. The reverse of the holster is stamped with the characters 9 6C and 28 OT. This item is either black powder or manufactured in or before 1898 (and does not take readily available ammunition), and thus does not require an FFL or background check.
