North Carolina plantation family archive consisting of financial, legal and personal documents from 1824-1860; 19 documents in all, including two slave bills of sale; one is an 1838 pre-printed form with NC state seal. The other bill of sale is handwritten, dated March 30, 1835 for "Negro Woman Anna and Boy Child Charley." Of particular note is a 6.25" x 8" ledger with marbled boards that chronicles the sale of molasses, almonds and whiskey from Norfolk to Martinique in the 1830's. Among the entries are a number of references to slave purchases, including "Negro Property - a Negro man Isaac $400, Old Man Bob $125, Boy John and Boy Henry $800. The ledger dates from 1835 to 1849 and bears the owner's name of William L. Bryant. on the cover. In the 1840 Census Bryant resided in Nash County, NC. Condition is very good to fine.
