Garden Gate Bud Vases. This collection of American art pottery consists of four pieces of glazed earthenware featuring mid-century matte glazes and relief-molded designs. The group includes two Roseville ashtrays in the Pine Cone pattern, a design originally introduced in 1935. These leaf-shaped vessels feature relief-molded pine cone and needle motifs finished in hand-blended matte glazes; one example is rendered in a brown and tan palette, while the other is in green and yellow. Both ashtrays are marked on the underside with the raised script mark Roseville U.S.A. 499. Also included are two architectural bud vases or flower frogs in a garden gate form, featuring fluted cylindrical pillars connected by a three-rail gate with a diagonal cross-brace. These unmarked pieces are attributed to American art pottery production, likely from the Ohio region such as Roseville or McCoy. One gate vase is finished in a uniform forest green matte glaze, and the other features a variegated green and yellow matte glaze. Ashtrays: 4.5 inches long.
