Pooler & Jones 1878 Patent Shotshell Belt
Antique Pooler & Jones “Boss” leather shotshell belt with brass spring holders stamped “PAT. APR. 16-78 / P&J SERENA, ILL.” U.S. Patent Office records list Rheubin H. Pooler and William T. Jones of Serena, Illinois, for cartridge-holder patent No. 202,463, and an 1884 sporting ad offered the Boss belt for paper or brass shotgun shells. The 1878 mark is the patent date, not proof this exact belt was made that year. The consignor attributes it to the Indian Wars period, but no military issue marks are visible and no documented service provenance is included.
