This is a vintage metal safety can marked Peerless Approved Safety Devices, made by Peerless Manufacturing Company of Chicago USA, with the raised name and logo cast into the body. It has a spring-loaded flip lid with a wood grip handle for pouring, a carry bail, and the classic upright shape used for storing gasoline and other fuels. The steel body shows red-brown paint remnants over heavy age patina, scattered surface rust, and staining, most visible on the bottom. Condition is good and original for its age, with the safety lid mechanism present. Peerless safety cans are collected for their strong branding and Chicago maker history.
