Japanese Imperial Arsenal Showato Katana Samurai Sword. . This fine pre-war 1930s civilian Japanese katana, in excellent condition for its age, features a 25.5-inch blade (36.5 inches overall) bearing a signature on the tang identified via customer provenance as MAE KAWA MASA TSUGU. The factory stamped and skillfully forged blade features a stunning, active irregular zigzag hamon, plain grain steel, deep curvature, a wide full-length blood groove, and a robust shinogi-zukuri construction, culminating in a curved, medium-length kissaki (tip) heat-treated with a distinct large circle hamon. The blade is housed in dazzling furniture, featuring a tsuba inlaid with Japanese maple leaves, while the fuchi and kashira (upper and lower pommels) are inlaid with elegant chrysanthemum flowers. Underneath the classic silk diamond-pattern hand wrap lies a traditional dragon menuki resting over a fully intact ray skin samegawa. Includes a well-constructed Japanese wood scabbard. .
