Attribution note Dooney & Bourke was founded in 1975 at South Norwalk, Connecticut by Peter Dooney and Frederic Bourke, initially making belts and suspenders, and moved into women's handbags with the All-Weather Leather line - a water-repellent shrunken pebble-grain cowhide with smooth contrast trim - which Wikipedia and Harper's Bazaar date to 1981 while the company's own history, the Horsekeeping reference page and PurseBlog date the first AWL handbag collection with the duck logo to 1983. The duck was adopted as a nod to water running off a duck's back, and a trademark summary at That's a Trademark records the oval stitched logo-patch configuration as first used in 1983, with a metal medallion version following in 1991; the Velvet Muzzle collector guide associates the separate solid-brass oval duck fob with the early 1990s.
