Sights/Optics: The front sight is hooded with a beaded post dovetailed to a textured base integral to the barrel. The rear sight is a folding dual leaf u-notch sight dovetailed to a base screwed to the rear of the barrel. The scope is a Schmidt & Bender 1.5-6x first focal plane scope with a heavy duplex reticle. The glass is clear and there is a scratch on the right side of the body. The scope rates in Very Good condition. The scope is mounted to the receiver via Talley quick detach rings and two-piece bases bases. The left-rear of the receiver is factory drilled, tapped and filled for a receiver sight, none present. There are five additional holes drilled in the left of the receiver, three are blind-filled and two have fill-screws.
Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The one piece walnut stock has a straight comb with cheekpiece, checkered, capped semi-pistol grip, checkered forend, Super Grade sling swivels, and a smooth orange rubber Winchester buttpad. Two recoil lugs have been installed in the stock. There is light wear with a few scattered pressure dings. The LOP measures 13 5/8" from the face of the trigger to the rear of the butt. There is a crack running from the rear of the upper tang. There are no chips. Overall the furniture is in Very Good condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright and the rifling is sharp with some stubborn fouling. There is faint infrequent oxidation in the bore. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 8.5/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its metal finish. There are some light infrequent scratches and handling marks. The markings are clear and complete. Overall, this rifle rates in about Fine condition as customized.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This is a custom post war Super Grade configured in one of Winchester's most storied dangerous game chamberings. The rifle retains approximately 98% of its restored finish, applied evenly and presenting very cleanly, with strong overall eye appeal. The Super Grade stock shows the elegant lines, cheekpiece, and checkering that define Winchester's premium trim with dual recoil lugs installed, and the bolt is matching, an important point of interest on Model 70 rifles. The long 25" barrel complements the .375 H&H Magnum chambering and gives the rifle its classic safari profile.
Mechanically, the rifle remains sound. The bore rates 8.5 out of 10, showing good rifling and brightness appropriate for a rifle of this age and caliber. The action functions correctly with smooth controlled round feed operation and positive lockup, characteristics that made the Model 70 the benchmark dangerous game bolt action of its era. The Schmidt and Bender scope adds a high quality optic consistent with the rifle's serious sporting intent.
Historically, a 1949 Super Grade in .375 H and H Magnum represents the height of Winchester's post war sporting rifle craftsmanship. These rifles were favored by professional hunters and sportsmen worldwide for their reliability, balance, and ability to handle powerful cartridges with confidence. While the finish is nonoriginal, this example remains a highly desirable configuration that captures the spirit of classic mid twentieth century safari rifles, combining premium Winchester craftsmanship with one of the most respected sporting cartridges ever produced.
