Sights / Optics: The front sight is a serrated blade integral to a serrated, ramped base fixed to the barrel. The rear sight is square notch adjustable for elevation and windage in a base pinned to the topstrap.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece smooth walnut with gold-colored Colt medallions. The interior of each grip panel has a non-matching serial number hand-scribed. The grips do not fit the frame properly. There are some light nicks and small scratches. There are very small losses at the bottom-front corners and on the rear edge of the left panel along the backstrap. Overall, the grips are in Good condition as not original to the gun.
Type of Finish: Blue and Case Color
Finish Originality: Original, numbered parts match.
Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore, but there is a little stubborn fouling. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 9 out of 10.
Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 95% of its metal finish. The finish is thinning at some edges. There are some tiny nicks and scratches. There is infrequent minor surface oxidation, mostly on the left of the frame. The action shows light operational wear with minor turn-wear on the cylinder. The screw heads range from sharp to tool marked with strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this revolver is in Very Good-plus condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The trigger is crisp. We did not fire this handgun.

Our Assessment: From 1890 to 1989, Colt manufactured a variation of the venerable Single Action Army with a uniquely different profile. The “Flattop Target Model” was fitted with an adjustable leaf rear sight and a blade front sight. The New Frontier has that sleek flattop design with a rear sight that is adjustable for windage and elevation along with a target ready ramp front sight. The New Frontier was offered in a few different calibers and in various barrel lengths. These guns are meticulously finished in Colt Royal Blue on both the barrel and cylinder, with a color case hardened frame. This example's 7 1/2" barrel should make it as accurate as it is beautiful. It is in Very Good-plus condition, showing signs of responsible use, replaced grips, and is chambered for the classic .45 Colt cartridge.
