LARGE ESTATE BOOK LOT - ANTIQUE AND VINTAGE FAMILY BIBLES, BAPTIST AND BRUMLEY SHAPE-NOTE HYMNALS, USDA YEARBOOKS OF AGRICULTURE, OKLAHOMA HISTORY AND SCHOOL BOOKS, 1958-59 OKLAHOMA STATE DIRECTORY, AND A 1985 FEDERAL TAX COURSE - WITH SEVERAL DATED ANADARKO AND GRACEMONT, OKLAHOMA PRESENTATION INSCRIPTIONS
This lot arrived in three separate photo uploads and is being cataloged as one group. It is a substantial estate library, roughly twenty-five to thirty volumes, that breaks into four natural collecting groups: family Bibles and religious books, church hymnals and shape-note songbooks, United States Department of Agriculture Yearbooks with related farm and livestock reference, and Oklahoma school, history, and reference books. Several volumes carry dated presentation inscriptions naming Oklahoma people and places, including "Presented to Joan McClosky, First Baptist Church, Sept 26, 1943, Anadarko, Okla." and "Leon Edwin Bost, Gracemont, Okla., 1946," which turns this from a plain book box into a lot with genuine local-history interest for Caddo County buyers. The agriculture group includes the well-known illustrated USDA Yearbooks - Grass 1948, Crops in Peace and War 1950-1951, Water 1955, Animal Diseases 1956, Soil 1957, and Land 1958 - along with Morrison's Feeds and Feeding, Twenty-Second Edition and a spiral-bound 1966 Oklahoma Agriculture Annual Report from the State Board of Agriculture. This is a strong lot for a resale bookseller, a genealogist, an Oklahoma history collector, a church or gospel-music collector, or a farm-and-ranch library buyer, and it also works as decorator stacks of old cloth-bound books. Bidders should also review the other book and cookbook lots offered in this sale. Note the condition problems detailed below: several of the oldest volumes are heavily worn with detached or broken spines, two shape-note hymnals are badly deteriorated, and the tax course and some school books carry heavy highlighting and handwriting. Sold as a lot of all books pictured.
Description
Bibles and religious books
A black leather Holy Bible, gilt-lettered on the front cover, with a printed presentation page inscribed in ink "Presented to Joan McClosky, First Baptist Church, Sept 26, 1943, Anadarko, Okla." This is the most heavily damaged book in the lot - the spine covering is largely gone, the cloth and leather are torn away at the head and tail, the sewing cords and the exposed backs of the gathered signatures are visible, and the boards are only marginally attached.
A green leather-grained Holy Bible, Reference Edition, gilt-lettered, with a hand-illuminated presentation leaf inscribed "Presented to Ida G. Anderson, by Donnie Anderson, Date Dec. 25-1980", gilt page edges, ribbon markers, and a green crocheted or needlework bookmark laid in at Judges 6-7.
A black leather Holy Bible with red-letter text and thumb-cut index tabs, worn at the corners and joints.
THE LIVING BIBLE, PARAPHRASED, dark green boards with a gilt quatrefoil ornament.
THE CHILDREN'S LIVING BIBLE, green cloth spine with a full-color illustrated board showing the Good Shepherd; the front board shows heavy surface loss and abrasion to the printed picture.

THE BAPTIST HYMNAL, navy cloth with gilt lettering, later edition.
BAPTIST HYMNAL, red cloth with gilt lettering and staff-line rules, inscribed on the front free endpaper "To Jordan Hancock, Dec 7, 1945, From The Bakers" in one of the volumes photographed alongside it.
BAPTIST HYMNAL, blue-gray cloth with a black-and-white cover panel and a church ownership line stamped at the foot of the front board that is too faint to read reliably in the photographs.
FAVORITE SONGS AND HYMNS, maroon cloth with gilt script lettering and a lyre device.
THE BROADMAN HYMNAL, dark green cloth with a silver eighth-note device, the front pastedown bearing a printed bookplate with a name written in red and blue ink that is not legible in the photograph.
