Description from HiBid
This Bavarian Werder Model 1874 rifle chambered in 11.5x35R is one of the most distinctive military firearms of the late 19th century. Featuring a 24.5-inch barrel with a dark bore and fair overall condition, this rifle represents a fascinating chapter in German military arms development. Known for its unique and remarkably fast action, the Werder earned the nickname "Lightning Rifle" due to its rapid rate of fire compared to many contemporary military rifles. This example displays visible rust on the barrel, consistent with its age and long service life, but still retains the unmistakable profile and historical significance collectors appreciate. Surviving Werder rifles are considerably scarcer than later Mauser designs, making them highly desirable additions to advanced collections of early military firearms. Please see photos.
