Produced in June 1976 at 16.155 units produced, Bally’s Captain Fantastic and The Brown Dirt Cowboy is uniquely celebrated as one of the most successful electromechanical pinball machines ever produced. The unit’s theme captures a legendary pop-culture moment, merging Elton John’s 1975 album with his “Pinball Wizard” persona from the film adaptation of The Who’s “Tommy”. The game focuses entirely on building, doubling, and collecting a massive end-of-ball bonus pool. Top priority is to guide the ball through the top lanes to light up both the “A” and “B” rollovers. Doing so illuminates a green arrow that instantly doubles your end-of-ball bonus. Sweep the 5-bank of drop targets to claim an extra ball, and max out points by hitting green star rollovers spread across the entire playfield. Playfield: Great blue based novelty playfield that celebrates the 1970s glam rock scene intermixed with a vintage arcade novelty aesthetic. Playfield has some rustic wear due to age, primarily in spots where natural wood grain is shown, but overall great presentation. Backglass: Bright and vibrant with lots of crazed activity. Elton John is center stage in his “Pinball Wizard” gimmick. Colors work great with reflective glass backdrop. Cabinet: Sleek winged cabinet design set within red and blue coloring on a white backdrop. Some situational wear due to the age of the item, most notably on the left side.
