Antique Lathing or Shingling Hatchet

This is an antique lathing or shingling hatchet with a wide flat blade and a hammer poll, fitted to a wood handle. A ruler in the photos shows it runs roughly fourteen inches long. The steel head shows age with surface rust, pitting, and old grinding marks, while the wood handle shows honest wear and darkening. The head is tight to the handle in the images. Condition is fair to good as a used antique hand tool and it displays well among primitive tools. Old carpenter and roofer hatchets like this are collected and can still be cleaned up for use.
