Railroad, and Commercial Ephemera, Early to Mid-20th Century. This archive comprises a variety of paper collectibles primarily documenting industrial and commercial history in Southeastern and Central Ohio, including Athens, Hocking, Vinton, and Lucas Counties. The collection includes a group of documents from The Hocking Valley Railway Company featuring coal shipping receipts, bills of lading, and typewritten correspondence from the Toledo Dock Agent dated 1916. An assortment of red-printed Norfolk and Western Railway Company Time Freight Card Way-Bills dated 1915 and 1919 are present. Other transportation items include a Pennsylvania Turnpike System promotional pamphlet titled a group of magic miles and a 1953 New York Central System rules book for track cars. Telecommunications materials include several items from The Western Union Telegraph Company, notably a hardcover manual titled Instructions for Operation and Maintenance of Telegraph Power Plants, copyright 1930, with internal sections dated 1918. Several Western Union field notebooks, identified as Forms 200 and 200A, contain handwritten entries and field notes. The lot features a large group of cancelled checks and banking documents from regional institutions including The Marshfield State Bank, The Bank of Corning Company, Vinton County Bank, and The Athens National Bank, with dates ranging from approximately 1908 to 1940. Additional business ephemera includes an insurance advertisement for Roland B. Smith of Glouster, Ohio, and invoices from Leadville, Colorado. Postal and souvenir items include color and black-and-white postcards of J.N. Adam Memorial Hospital in Perrysburg, New York; Union Station in Washington, D.C.; and landmarks in Marietta, Ohio. A 25 Views copyrighted stereograph packet and an Antonio y Cleopatra cigar label are included. Sports interest is represented by a vintage trade card or booklet cover depicting bare-knuckle boxers Paddy Ryan and John L. Sullivan. Burns in-house shipping is available.
