Artifacts and Projectile Points. This large assortment of Indigenous North American stone artifacts consists primarily of projectile points, bifacial tools, and lithic fragments. The collection includes various styles such as side-notched, corner-notched, stemmed, and triangular forms, suggesting a range of chronological periods from the Archaic through the Mississippian. Materials are varied, including chert, flint, jasper, and quartzite in shades of gray, tan, cream, and reddish-brown. One large rounded specimen is consistent with a water-worn cobble or ground stone tool. Several flat, textured pieces may be prehistoric pottery sherds or tabular stone. Construction techniques include primary percussion flaking and secondary pressure flaking. Marks include a small red-bordered sticker reading 6.50 on a gray side-notched point and a circular sticker with 894 on a white chert fragment. Faint ink or pencil inventory numbers are visible on several pieces. An artifact exhibits an ink marking resembling a concentric circle. Individual items range from approximately 1 inch to over 4 inches in length. Burns in-house shipping is available.
