Lithic Artifacts Fossils and Mineral Specimens. This collection consists of North American lithic artifacts, fossil specimens, and raw minerals. The lithic assemblage features a variety of flaked stone tools including projectile points, arrowheads, and blades. Typologies represented include corner-notched, side-notched, stemmed, and lanceolate forms. These pieces are crafted from diverse materials such as chert, flint, translucent quartz, and dark obsidian. The group includes ground stone tools, notably a spherical stone likely used as a gaming stone or discoidal, a large tapered stone with a flattened base serving as a pestle or hand stone, and a flat, shaped stone with a single drilled perforation, potentially a gorget fragment. Several fossilized crinoid stem segments are included, showing characteristic cylindrical, bead-like structures. Multiple raw mineral specimens are present, displaying heavy green oxidation consistent with copper-bearing minerals such as malachite. Several lithic pieces bear handwritten cataloging marks in black or red ink. A large cream-colored point is marked 4 Z 8. Another tan point is inscribed in cursive script with Buren, Mo, likely referring to Van Buren, Missouri. Other items are marked with numeric and alphabetic combinations like Z 48.
