Artifacts and One Iron Nail. This lot features a collection of Native American ground stone tools and artifacts alongside An iron nail. These items are characteristic of the Archaic and Woodland periods and are manufactured from various fine-grained igneous and metamorphic hardstones such as granite, greenstone, and diorite. The grouping includes several grooved axe heads featuring pecked and ground hafting grooves and tapered bits, with the largest example measuring approximately 7 inches in length. Also included are multiple ungrooved celts and adzes used as chopping or woodworking tools, including a notable example fashioned from dense, dark black stone with a highly polished bit. A small, flattened circular stone with a central biconical perforation is also present, which may have served as a spindle whorl or decorative ornament. This perforated stone is accompanied by a handwritten note on yellow paper that identifies it as being found by Les Champlin in a creek near Le Master Road on January 30, 1994. Several of the stone pieces bear inventory markings, specifically a grey celt marked with the number 7034 in white and 32 in red ink. The collection is rounded out by an early square-cut iron nail with a heavy rusted patina.
