CALLIGRAPHY ON SILK IN THE SONG DYNASTY. L:2000cm (787.40in) W:35cm (13.78in)This long scroll compiling wild cursive poetry works of multiple Song literati is painted on aged silk, mounted with antique brown patterned silk brocade and woven ribbon jade fastener, with wooden label inscribed Collection of Ancient Song Calligraphers, Imperial Palace Collection. The frontispiece bears large running script title Vivid Brush Rhythm, stamped with calligrapher signature and red collection seals. The main scroll collects wild cursive poems by various Song literati. The brush lines are continuous, unrestrained and forceful, with rich layered ink shades of dry, wet, thick and thin, and dramatic, dynamic character structures. Dated Song inscriptions can be seen on partial sections, and the whole scroll is covered with imperial and private collection seals from Song, Ming and Qing dynasties. Extended colophons in regular and running script by calligraphers including Song Lian and Fang Xiaoru are attached at the end, researching the origin of cursive script and commenting on Song cursive brushwork with detailed textual evidence. Made of ancient silk with natural aged cracks formed over time, the scroll remains fully intact, a rare surviving anthology of Song cursive calligraphy ALL PROPERTY IS SOLD AS IS, WHERE IS, WITH NO RETURNS OR CANCELLATIONS.
