Guard and Grand Army of the Republic Veteran Caps. A collection of late 19th to early 20th-century American military and veteran headpieces, featuring several examples manufactured by The M.C. Lilley and Company of Columbus, Ohio. A piece is a Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) veteran cap in dark blue wool with a gold-tone metallic laurel wreath insignia containing the letters GAR. This cap features a black satin-style lining, a leather sweatband, and a textile tag marked Large. Also included is a forage cap in dark blue wool representing the 3rd Ohio Regiment, identified by an embroidered bullion number 3 inside a laurel wreath on the front band. The flat crown is adorned with a blue felt panel featuring the bullion word OHIO and a red-bordered diamond patch with a central eagle. The interior displays a silver-colored manufacturer stamp for The M.C. Lilley and Co. Another forage cap in dark blue wool is mounted with a brass infantry bugle horn insignia on the crown and contains a woven maker's label for The M.C. Lilley and Co. The collection also features a heavily distressed forage cap in dark wool, which includes a size label marked 7 1/4 inside a red diamond on the interior. Burns in-house shipping is available.
