Whimseys and Toys Dated 1967. An assortment of mid-20th-century American hand-carved wooden folk art items, including toys and complex whimsey carvings. The group features a detailed model of a revolver constructed from at least different types of wood with a natural finish. The revolver includes articulated parts such as a moving cylinder, hammer, and trigger. The grip is secured with a metal screw and features a metal lanyard loop with an attached brown textile cord. The bottom of the grip is inscribed in ink with Nov 19 a group of LUR. The collection includes several traditional whimsey carvings executed from a blocks of wood. large examples feature long sections of interconnected wooden chain links attached to bars containing captured rolling balls within open cages. A variety of smaller hand-carved items are present, including a simple wooden cross, additional chain link sections, and several smaller ball-in-cage carvings. Also included is a small figural carving of a wide-brimmed hat painted in a dark forest green or black, featuring a miniature red-handled axe carved onto the top. The lot is accompanied by a simple, rectangular wooden storage box of nailed construction. The items exhibit visible tool marks and artisanal detail characteristic of handmade folk art.
