This lot comprises a diverse collection of specialty hand tools designed for opening and sealing wooden shipping crates, dating from the late 19th to the mid-20th century. The assembly features a variety of designs, including T-shaped box hammers, L-shaped prying tools, and multi-purpose implements combining hammer heads, pry claws, and hatchet blades. Construction is primarily of forged steel and iron. Prominent American manufacturers are represented through various maker's marks and stamps. Examples from The Bridgeport Hardware Mfg. Corp. of Bridgeport, Connecticut, include tools marked with the company name, a stylized BHM monogram in a square frame, and a prying hammer stamped BOX TERRIER. The Diamond Calk Horseshoe Co. of Duluth, Minnesota, is represented by tools marked JUNIOR CRATE OPENER and DIAMOND. A specialty prying hammer is stamped HUBER CINCINNATI OHIO, and another box opener is marked BIXBYS. The collection also includes tools featuring the Keen Kutter wedge-shaped logo used by the Simmons Hardware Co.
