Description from HiBid
Unique selection of around 50+ 78 PRM Records (often called “78s”), perfect from any antique and vintage music or recording collector. 78s were the primarily recorded music format from roughly 1898 to the late 1950s. As the more modern 12in. LP (33 1/3 PRM) and the 7in. single (45RPM) were introduced in the late 1940’s, 78’s began to phase out even though it would still take a decade to essentially do so.
78’s are unlike modern vinyl and made of a shellac resin, making the record’s material brittle with the possibility of shattering if dropped. With that observed, many 78’s have been lost to time which points to this selected lot being unique with its assortment of records holding quality for its age.
As the lot primarily consists of records from the early 20th century, the selection covers an array of earlier genres, including many of the instrumental varieties such as classical and big band. Other genres such as blues, folk, swing, ballads and others can easily be included as there is a larger number of records spanning across multiple genres. 78 RPM records typically have a physical limitation of about 3 to 5 minutes of audio per side making these records either singular songs or two-three at most.
Overall records are by majority in good condition for their antique to vintage age. Majority of the records come in their own individual sleeves unless they are featured in a box set type design.
