Description from HiBid
1999 Georgia State Quarter – Hobo Carved Folk Art Coin
This lot features a 1999 Georgia State Quarter that has been hand-engraved (hobo carved) after leaving the U.S. Mint. The original Georgia reverse design has been artistically altered with a custom carved flag motif, transforming the coin into a piece of modern hobo-style folk art.
Hobo carving is a long-standing American tradition in which circulating coins are hand-engraved to create unique designs, patterns, or imagery. Each carved coin is a one-of-a-kind artistic modification, valued for craftsmanship and visual appeal rather than face value or traditional numismatic rarity.
The obverse retains the standard George Washington portrait. The reverse carving shows visible tool marks and relief consistent with hand engraving. Condition reflects circulation and the carving process. No two hobo-carved coins are ever identical.
