Civil War US Depot Altered Springfield 1858 Musketoon, Very Good Condition for its age and use, 25.5" Barrel
This fascinating wartime hybrid marries a genuine Springfield 1842 barreled action, dated 1858 to indicate the year it was made, to a French Model 1829 Artillery Musketoon stock. The barreled action is set in walnut with brass furniture, including the pattern's signature scalloped muzzle band and a swiveling ramrod catch, the whole showing honest age and service wear. Many of these French musketoons had their actions replaced by blacksmiths with Springfield 1824 actions when the originals malfunctioned. Customer-provided provenance states that, per family lore, this firearm was used in the Civil War by Samuel M. Morris, who fought on the Union side in the U.S. cavalry; he was the older brother of Joseph M. Morris, who owned the firearm, and Joseph's initials are branded into the left-hand side of the stock. Black powder only. No FFL is required in most states (500855). (GSCG29)
