Bronze commemorative medal honoring service with the German Artillery, featuring an allegorical front design with artilleryman, cannon, eagle, and shield, framed by the inscription "German Artillery" and "German Artillery 1843-1892." The reverse is fully texted, recording the individual's entry into active service on December 27, 1860, and surrender with the Confederate Army at Hillsboro, North Carolina in May of 1865. The medal reflects the late-19th-century tradition of privately commissioned veteran medals, combining personal service history with regimental pride and Old World iconography common among German-American units.
