VICKSBURG JULY 4 1863 FACSIMILE NEWSPAPER

Grant's 1863 Siege of Vicksburg created untold shortages for Pemberton's army and the unfortunate civilians of the city. With paper shortages becoming acute, six editions of The Daily Citizen were printed on the backs of old wallpaper stock and immediately became collector's items. In 1885, after U.S. Grant's death, facsimile wallpaper copies of these newspapers were issued in commemoration. This copy has a center fold separation and two missing pieces, including the entire top of the page where the mast head appeared. Wallpaper colors remain vibrant and this is an acceptable second to the extremely rare original printings. Condition fair to good.
