The Hakim Rifle is a semi-automatic rifle that was developed In Sweden from the Carl Gusave AG42 Ljungman 6.5x55mm rifle. The Egyptians liking the rifle during the 1950s acquired the machinery to produce this rifle in 8mm Mauser because of the abundance of 8mm ammo they had since the Second Word War. It was intended to replace the bolt-action Lee-Enfield rifles that were in use by the Egyptian military at the time. The rifle was re-designed by Dr. Abd al-Hakim Amer, who was Egypt’s Minister of War at the time, hence the name “Hakim” (which means “wise” or “judicious” in Arabic).
