CIVIL WAR AMES NAVAL OFFICER'S CUTLASS

Civil War Ames Officer's Naval Cutlass with cut out USN on guard. The guard is stamp "8M 193" and the blade has a partial Ames address on one side and "186_ " on the other side. The blade is full length with an unstopped fuller. Most of the leaher wrap is intact, but the brass wire is missing. The blade has a gray patina with light pitting and some tiny "flea bites" on the edge. The original scabbard has a repair and is incomplete. A very nice example of a scarce Civil War sword.
